The opening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is finally here for us normal folk, but a few lucky souls out there have already gotten to attend the movie at its London and New York City premieres. With those premieres, of course, come a whole lot of video footage and interviews with the cast and crew, so I figured I’d round up a few for you here:
Brief interviews with Daniel Radcliffe, Bonnie Wright, Rupert Grint, and Tom Felton from TheCinemaSource at the NYC premiere:
A strangely touching video in which two grown fans are literally brought to tears after J.K. Rowling signs their books at the London premiere:
A ten-minute TV special from the London premiere:
And finally, more NYC premiere interviews from the Leaky Cauldron:
iTunes recently debuted a full two-minute clip of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and it’s no fluff: we start with Dumbledore and Harry talking at Hogwarts, they apparate to the cave, and Dumbledore stabs himself in the hand. Really. It’s cool.
It’s all over YouTube, but the embedding has been suspiciously disabled on every video, so you’ll have to click through to check it out.
The YouTube user “BexyBat” has been uploading some shaky spy videos of the crew filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at Shell Cottage (Bill and Fleur’s place). They’re mostly just really faraway shots of the cast standing around, but they actually film a take in the video below.
Best as I can tell, they’re filming the scene (spoiler alert!) in which the gang shows up near the cottage after Dobby apparates them out of the Malfoy’s dungeon. Of course, since you can’t really apparate on camera, when the scene starts, they all just sort of…fall down.
Harry lands with Griphook first, then a short distance away, Ron and Hermione. Harry stumbles over to see if Hermione’s okay, then runs toward the camera, where a stand-in for Dobby stumbles around, fatally wounded.
At least, that’s what I think is going on. Let me know if I’ve got it wrong.
You know who I don’t see in this or any of the photos from Shell Cottage? Dean Thomas. Poor guy has a big part in Deathly Hallows, and it seems like they’ve written him out. Totally lame.
Warner Bros. continues to alternate between making Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince look like a super-dark drama and a light and fluffy romantic comedy. This first TV spot is definitely the latter. Dumbledore and Harry having a heart-to-heart about girls, Lavender Brown claiming possession over Ron…it’s all here. Check it out:
EA announced the other day that the video game tie-in to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will come out June 30th, a couple of weeks before the July 15th opening of the film.
In the game of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, players will return to Hogwarts to help Harry survive a fraught sixth year. They will also have a chance to engage in exciting wizard duels, mix and brew magical ingredients in Potions class and take to the air to lead the Gryffindor Quidditch team to victory. Players may even get sidetracked by Ron’s romantic entanglements as they journey towards a dramatic climax and discover the identity of the Half-Blood Prince.
Various versions of the game will be available on every game console system known to man (okay, the XBox 360, PlayStation 3, PS2, PSP, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS), as well as PCs, Macs, and even phones.
A seemingly final, two-minute and twenty-second trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has come out, and it’s packed with new footage. In fact, it’s almost too packed; fans of the book will recognize many scenes from very late in the story, so much so that I’d almost tell people who haven’t read Half-Blood Prince to skip it.
Then again, it’s a terrifically-cut trailer. While previous trailers have alternated between making Half-Blood Prince seem like (A) a dark story about the origins of Voldemort or (B) a light-hearted series of teen romances, this one successfully intertwines both themes into a coherent whole (although darkness would seem to win out). If you already know the story, check it out for yourself:
SPOILERS: Seriously, they revealed a lot, didn’t they? Death Eaters in the Great Hall, Katie Bell being tortured, Ginny about to kiss Harry, Snape deflecting Harry’s spells, the creatures crawling out of the water in the cave, and Malfoy in the tower saying “I have to do this”? That’s a lot of stuff I wouldn’t want to know if I hadn’t read the book already.
Jason Isaacs, who plays Lucius Malfoy in the Potter movies, will not appear in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. But he does have a funny story about that, and talks about a lot of other Potter stuff, in this recent talk show appearance promoting his movie Good, which also stars Viggo Mortensen. All the Potter stuff is in Part 1 of the video, which you can check out below:
They’ve released plenty of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince trailers and TV spots so far, and they all seem to alternate between showing off the dark, Voldemort-backstory aspects of the movie and the light, romantic comedy-style aspects. The latter seemed to be winning out with the latest round of featurettes last week, but a new trailer just came out and it’s the darkest one yet.
Capping off this very video-filled day is one final featurette shown on MTV Spoilers. The big “spoiler” they reveal is that they’ve added a scene, not in the book, in which Death Eaters attack the Burrow. I’m pretty sure that’s been known for a while, but either way, it’s a scene to which I’m looking forward.
They also have a lot of interview footage with Jessie Cave, who plays Ron’s brief girlfriend Lavender Brown. Turns out her big kiss with Rupert Grint occurred with no rehearsal on the third day of her filming schedule.
A new behind-the-scenes featurette for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince popped up online via “Today Australia.” Along with a lot of new footage from the film, it includes interviews with director David Yates, producer David Heyman, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. Check it out…
The best part? Hermione’s delivery of the line: “Excuse me, I have to go vomit.”
