The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will open in a record number of theaters today.  The film will roll out into 4,285 theaters across North America - the most ever for a Warner Bros. film.  It trails only Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, which opened in 4,362 theaters in May.

Warner Bros. previous record holder was Superman Returns last year with 4,065 theaters.  The previous Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire debuted in 3,858 theaters in 2005.

Worldwide, the new film will be one of the largest day-and-date releases, opening in 44 markets around the world with 22,000 prints.  The previous record holder for a Harry Potter film was 2004's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban which opened in 24 markets.

The film will be playing on 750 digital screens (579 in North America), both a record for Warner Bros.  It will also be featured on 126 IMAX screens (91 in North America) with many of those theaters showing the last twenty minutes of the film in 3-D.
