Stephen King Settles the ‘Twilight’ vs. ‘Harry Potter’ Debate
Wed, Feb 11, 2009
It was never a real debate, of course: Harry wins. Pure and simple. But man, those Twilight fans can be loud.
Anyway, with the media still trying to peg Twilight as “The Next Harry Potter,” Stephen King has weighed in on the fabricated debate with a firm answer. Here’s the direct quote, from an interview with USA Weekend:
Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people… The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.
Aside from his horror novel career, King wrote the critically-acclaimed On Writing and writes a pop culture column in Entertainment Weekly. He’s long been a public fan of the Harry Potter series (although he has criticized Rowling’s arguably too-frequent use of adverbs).

@Foot~Detox - No it isn`t.
@| melatonin sleep aid - No it won`t
Twilight is a sucky novel written by a hack, whereas the Harry potter novels are passable novels written by a hack.
When it comes to judging someone`s writing ability I`d take Stephen King at his word…..
…he`s rumoured to be a pretty popular writer or something.

Harry Potter is MILLIONS times better than Twilight.
Kristen Stewart is the worst actress in the history of EVER!
I have read the Twilight books, all four of them and they are not worth a cent. And it is silly to even THINK of comparing them to Harry Potter, who is in a whole different league.

KISS YOU STEPHEN KING!!!
You were always amongst my top favourite authors! Fortunately, when I was at the age of Twilight fangirlies, I was fond of YOUR works and not rubbish like Twilight!
I dare say King and all the horror/dark fantasy authors are furious about Twilight which is a shame of the genre (perhaps the entire book industry).
Meyer is no author in my opinion, authors have their own ideas and do not stalk other authors’s tracks! Not a big praise for Meyer that the only loveable thing in her works (copies) are the appearances of young male actors who plays her characters!
