Harry is the 4th Coolest Hero in Pop Culture
Fri, Mar 27, 2009
Compulsive list-maker Entertainment Weekly just came out with one called “The 20 Coolest Heroes in Pop Culture,” of which Harry landed the plum #4 spot.
Superman (#3), Indiana Jones (#2), and James Bond (#1) came in ahead of him. Indy and Bond, okay, but Superman? I mean, did they see Superman Returns? Superman hasn’t really been much of a pop culture influence since 1980’s Superman 2. And he’s definitely not “cool.” He’s a total square. Batman, who is cool and still relevant, is stuck at #18.
Anyway, back to Harry. About his “coolness”, EW.com says:
WHY HIM: Orphaned, cast out, and in the throes of adolescent hormonal revolt, J.K. Rowling’s boy wizard (played by Daniel Radcliffe on screen) is the embodiment of the corny bumper sticker: Why be normal?
MOST HEROIC MOVE: Obliterating Voldemort by deploying his secret weapons: love, loyalty, and the good ol’ Expelliarmus.
BIGGEST WEAKNESS: Misses his mommy and daddy.
Hard to argue with any of that.
