Bill Nighy Filming Soon as Scrimgeour

News

I really don’t get this whole Scrimgeour thing.  The new Minister of Magic has a major role in the sixth book but then a minuscule role in the seventh, and yet he’s been cut out of the sixth movie but will be introduced in the seventh.

How?  I mean, it’s not too big of a spoiler to say that…um…Scrimgeour dies very early in Deathly Hallows.  So they’re going to introduce him–they’ve even gotten Bill Nighy to play him–and then they’re going to kill him off ten minutes later?

Apparently.  But who knows?  Nighy–Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean, who also recently appeared in Valkyrie, Shaun of the Dead, The Constant Gardener, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and G-Force–spoke to the BBC the other day and mentioned he’d begin filming his role this coming week:

You’ve also finally got yourself in a Harry Potter film…

Yes I did. I was beginning to worry. I was beginning to feel a tiny bit excluded.  I think they ran out of English actors. I was the only English actor of a certain age who wasn’t in Harry Potter and now I’m in Harry Potter so I’m very happy.

I start filming next week and I’ve been in for costume fittings and things. I can’t tell you too much about it because they do literally, I think they kill me or take my house or something if I tell you anything too much. And for good reasons, so that it all comes as a bit of a surprise.

Personally I think Nighy would make a great Aberforth Dumbledore, but that role has already been taken by Ciaran Hinds, so what do I know.
